Aspire has 3 pathways, these are Independent Living, Further Skills and Supported Internship. All the learners on the Aspire
programmes have Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP). The team use various SEND strategies in class to meet the young
person’s individual needs which could include social stories, talking mats, TEACCH approach or Makaton, and work in both
pictorial and written formats. Learners are supported from the moment they walk through the door until leaving the college
at the end of the day, including during break-times.

Aspire
The Learners take part in option days (if appropriate) - in Gardening, Retail, Craft, Construction, Duke of Edinburgh and
Independent Living skills to support them for their futures. The courses are tailored to each learner, they will start with
an individualised RARPA programme (Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement) and may develop onto a
bespoke quali昀椀cation. Maths, English and the PfA (Preparing for Adulthood) framework is at the forefront of the curriculum
delivery. The programmes include work experience, travel training and tutorials, while following EHCP targets.
Independent Living
Supported Internship
Learners take part in independent living tasks in our
practical spaces and will be involved in social community
opportunities. This course promotes con昀椀dence and
personal skills development while developing both
academically and socially.
This programme is designed for learners who are almost
work ready but still need some support. The aim of the
internship is to develop employment skills to become
independent in the workplace including traveling to the
place of work without support. Learners will initially
be assigned a job coach to support them into their
placement and over time they will move away to promote
independence. Learners are required to be in college
one day per week (maybe more depending on maths
and English results) to develop employment theory and
maths and English skills. They will spend two days per
week in their work placement setting.
Further Skills
Learners take part in both practical and theory classes to
develop skills for personal and social development and
employment. The further skills course is designed for
those learners who may still need a lot of support in both
academic and at unstructured times.
