The Level 1 Construction Skills quali昀椀cation is an introductory course to carpentry and joinery skills, designed for learners
who may have no formal quali昀椀cations or require further support in the classroom without having to sit formal exams.
This course consists of several theory elements as well as having the opportunity to work on practical hand-skills.
Carpentry and Joinery Level 1, 2 and 3
We offer a clear progression route in Carpentry and Joinery through Level 1, 2, and 3 quali昀椀cations, designed for learners
aged 16 and over who are interested in entering the construction industry. These hands-on courses combine practical
skills with essential theory, preparing learners for employment or further study.
Level 1 Carpentry and Joinery serves as an introduction to the trade. It’s ideal for beginners with little or no prior
experience. Learners learn basic woodworking techniques, health and safety, and how to use tools and materials
effectively. The course provides a strong foundation in both site carpentry and bench joinery, helping learners decide
which path to follow as they progress.
Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery builds on the skills developed at Level 1 and is aimed at those who want to gain more
in-depth knowledge and prepare for work in the industry. Learners can choose to specialise in either Site Carpentry—
focusing on structural work on construction sites—or Bench Joinery, which involves creating wood components in a
workshop setting. The course blends classroom learning with extensive workshop practice and may include a work
placement or employer project.
