At the College, we offer a structured and supportive pathway for learners interested in developing their talents in the
performing arts through our Performance Skills quali昀椀cations at Levels 1, 2 and 3. These courses are designed for
post-16 learners who are passionate about acting, dance, musical theatre or stagecraft, and who want to build their
skills in a practical, creative environment.
Level 1 Performance Skills is an introductory course that focuses on the basics of performance. It’s ideal for learners
who are new to performing or who want to build their con昀椀dence. The course explores essential skills such as voice
projection, movement, teamwork, and character development. Learners participate in workshops and small-scale
performances, gradually building their understanding of how to work collaboratively and creatively. Level 1 also helps
Learners develop valuable personal and social skills, such as communication, discipline, and self-expression, which are
transferable beyond the arts.
Level 2 builds on these foundations with a greater focus on technique, performance styles and creative expression. It
suits learners who have some experience in performance or who have completed Level 1. The course involves more
structured training in acting, movement, and vocal work, as well as exploring performance theory and different genres
such as physical theatre or musical theatre. Learners take part in group projects and live performances, developing
their stagecraft and gaining experience in working to deadlines, responding to direction, and re昀氀ecting on their
progress. This level provides a solid foundation for those considering further training or a career in the performing arts.
Performing Arts
Performance Skills Level 1, 2 and 3
Level 3 Performance Skills is a more advanced programme equivalent to three A Levels. It is designed for learners
who are pursuing a career in the creative industries or higher education in drama, dance, or musical theatre. The
course includes intensive practical training across various performance disciplines, combined with academic study of
key practitioners, performance styles, and industry knowledge. Learners work on larger-scale productions and public
performances, and are encouraged to develop their own creative voice. A strong focus is also placed on preparing
learners for progression, with support in audition techniques, CV writing, and portfolio development.
Throughout all levels, learners are taught by experienced tutors, many of whom have worked professionally in the
performing arts industry. This gives learners valuable insights into real-world expectations and helps them develop the
professionalism and discipline needed for success. Our facilities include dedicated performance spaces, rehearsal
rooms, and access to lighting and sound equipment, allowing learners to train in an environment that mirrors industry
standards.
