Higher National Diploma
Programme Overview
This programme is designed to build advanced technical knowledge and
skills for work in the fast-moving cyber security sector. The programme
supports progression into skilled digital and cyber-related roles and builds
on the foundations established at Level 4. Students develop a deeper,
specialist understanding of how organisations secure complex systems
and networks, manage cyber risk, and respond to security incidents. The
programme is applied and industry-informed, featuring realistic scenarios,
case studies and a research project, alongside specialist units such as
Network Security, Applied Cryptography in the Cloud, Information Security
Management, Risk Analysis and Systems Testing, and Forensics.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have successfully completed the Level 4 HNC in
Cyber Security, or an equivalent Level 4 qualification in Computing or
IT. Applications from mature learners with relevant industry experience
in a digital, computing or cyber-related role or those with non-traditional
qualifications will be considered on an individual basis, subject to an
assessment of their ability to succeed on the programme. Applicants
should normally hold GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above (or
Level 2 Functional Skills). Equivalent international qualifications will also
be considered.
What Can I Do When I Finish?
Graduates may progress into a range of skilled roles including: Cyber
Security Analyst, SOC Analyst, Network Security Technician, Digital
Risk or Governance Officer, Junior Penetration Tester. The HND is also
widely recognised by universities, enabling progression to Level 6 top-up
degrees in Computing, Cyber Security or related disciplines, subject to
individual university entry requirements.
