BA (Hons) Top Up
Programme Overview
This one-year Level 6 Top-Up programme builds on the prior Foundation
Degree/HND/Level 5 study of students who want to progress to
achieving a full BA (Hons) degree. The programme explores key themes
in education including technology, globalisation and reflective practice,
deepening your understanding of educational philosophies, research
methods, inclusion, curriculum design, and contemporary issues in the
education sector. You will complete a dissertation on a current issue
in education and benefit from guest lectures, research opportunities
and engagement with debates, all of which build critical thinking,
employability and career prospects. This full time one-year programme
is taught across two evenings per week, making it highly accessible for
those with employment or other commitments during the day.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should hold a Foundation Degree/HND/Level 5 qualification in
an Education-related field, along with GCSE Maths and English at grade
4/C or above (or Level 2 Functional Skills). Mature students with relevant
life or employment experience, or applicants with equivalent international
qualifications, will be considered on a case by case basis. Experience
working with children or young people is advantageous.
What Can I Do When I Finish?
Graduates may progress into careers such as Primary Teacher (via a
PGCE), Learning Mentor, Family Support Worker, Education Officer,
Early Years Leader, or Student Support Practitioner. Further study
options include post-graduate teacher training programmes, master’s
degrees or other Level 7 studies in education or related fields, or
specialist SEND or leadership programmes.
