MA Psychotherapy Studies

Programme Overview
This master’s programme is designed to support those with a first
undergraduate degree in another subject outside of counselling
or psychotherapy. It enables graduates to qualify as professional
psychotherapists as part of their Level 7 studies. The programme
combines embodied, relational, integrative and holistic approaches,
with highly experiential learning through workshops, lectures, field trips
and creative practices. Assessment methods include reflective journals,
case studies, creative work, podcasts and a research thesis. Students
will also apply for and complete a 100-hour therapeutic placement
within an organisation offering psychotherapeutic services, undertaken
between January of year one and April of year two. To further enrich the
experience, the programme includes two residentials: Building Community
Creatively in October and Working Wildly in late May/early June, along
with occasional evening and weekend CPD events. Unique in its content,
this MA is the only* programme in the UK to offer a specialist module in
Wild Therapy.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should hold a first degree (any subject) with 2:1 classification
or equivalent plus a Level 3 Counselling qualification (which included 50
hours+ of skills practice).
What Can I Do When I Finish?
Graduates advance into roles within mental health, wellbeing services,
counselling organisations, education, research, and private practice, or
progress to doctoral study, clinical training, or specialist psychotherapy
routes.
