Level 4 Certificate in Education & Training
Programme Overview
This programme introduces the core knowledge and skills required for
effective teaching in the Further Education and Skills sector. It explores
the fundamental principles of planning, delivering and evaluating teaching
and learning, alongside essential topics such as assessment strategies,
inclusive practice, behaviour management, and the professional
responsibilities of an educator. You will develop confidence in designing
engaging learning activities, supporting diverse learners, and reflecting
on your own practice to improve teaching performance. The programme
is well-suited to individuals who are new to teaching, those delivering
training in the workplace, or anyone looking to gain an initial teaching
qualification before progressing to full teacher status. It is ideal for those
beginning their teaching journey.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should hold a subject specialism qualification at at least
Level 3 or higher; as well as GCSE Maths and English at grade 4/C or
above (or Level 2 Functional Skills). Applicants must also have access
to teaching or training opportunities—either voluntary or paid— as they
provide essential context for applying theory to practice. Applicants
should also demonstrate strong communication skills and a commitment
to supporting learners in a post-16 environment.
What Can I Do When I Finish?
The CET provides a strong foundation for a career in post-16 education
and training. Graduates typically progress into roles such as Associate
Teacher, Workshop Instructor, Skills Tutor, Employability or Vocational
Trainer, Learning Facilitator, or Community Education Practitioner.
Many learners continue onto our Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (Further
Education & Skills) to gain a full teaching qualification, or pursue
specialist routes such as Assessment and IQA qualifications, SEND
specialisms, coaching, mentoring or curriculum technology training.
